βIt was such an honor. My family enjoyed learning about the edible herbs and flora and their healing properties. The confidence Cheyenne has in her knowledge made it such a rewarding experience for us. She is a treasure, and I look forward to future workshops and experiences. Thank you for being an exceptional steward to the land.β
About Foraging & Herbalism Walks
Join me, herbalist and ecologist (M.S.), Cheyenne Jolene, for plant identification and nature walks centered around local Southeast plant foraging. Immerse yourself in the rich natural world that surrounds us and begin to see the plants through the eyes of a forager. Develop a relationship with the land you live on by learning the ancient healing medicine found in plants local to the biologically diverse and beautiful Southeast.
We will explore various Southeast ecosystems and identify a variety of medicinal, edible, and other notable wild plants growing in urban areas, forests, meadows, and nearby waterways. Every season offers its own unique opportunities to learn more about the plants around us, even when we least expect them. Yes, we even walk in winter!
My intention is to teach you practical identification skills, inspire you to forage your own food and medicine, and open you to developing a closer relationship with nature, even if itβs in your backyard. Are you ready to learn?
-
On these field trips, we identify and talk about a variety of plants you may encounter in the wild. We will discuss weeds, invasives, exotics, and native plants. For each plant, we will talk about which parts are safe to eat and when as well as some recipe ideas. At times, we will dive into the natural history of how the plants came to be here and how wildlife species use them. We discuss sustainability, ethical wildcrafting, pollution issues, over-harvesting, and which plants you shouldnβt forage for their conservation and their alternatives.

My background is in studying ecology, natural ecosystems, and herbalism for the last decade. Iβve studied and taught ecology and plant identification in formal academic institutions but my greatest teachings come from my own personal time developing my relationships to the wild plants.
-
I host private and public outdoor walks primarily in Augusta, Georgia, and the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) but I also host walks throughout the Southeast.
-
Group size tends to be small so that we can have a low environmental impact and create a close community. Meet plants and make friends!

Although it depends on each walk and the location, generally, walks are slow meanders, so we can learn and experience each plant.

What messages are waiting for you in the wild?
Join us for a special evening of connection, curiosity, and wonder on as we explore the wisdom of both local plants and birds.
This unique experience will be guided wild plant walk, where weβll slow down, observe, and learn about the medicinal and practical uses of the plants growing all around us. You will learn plant identification, medicinal uses, and how to deepen your relationship with the land.
Weβll also be joined by special guest teacher, Michelle Trask, who will introduce us to the ancient practice of Ornithomancy, also known as bird divination or Bird Medicine.
Cultures around the world have long recognized a special connection with birds, interpreting their presence, behaviors, and songs as guidance, omens, and messages.
As we walk the trail, Michelle will share the symbolism of local birds and how to begin listening for their wisdom. From cardinals carrying messages from ancestors, to herons offering lessons in patience, to hawks awakening perception, the birds may have something to say to you.
Come ready to walk, observe, and open yourself to the messages nature may be offering.

βI got so much out of the wild plant walk. Cheyenne is knowledgeable, kind, and patiently answers questions with details, and in a way anyone can understand. She makes it fun, just by being her authentic self, and her humility is refreshing. Iβd highly recommend trying a walk, and see for yourself. I will definitely be doing more classes with her.β - Terri
